Job title

Greenwich Park Manager

What does your role involve?

I lead the team to ensure high standards of management and maintenance and a good visitor experience for visitors.  Communicating with stakeholders - to understand their day-to-day needs is key. And importantly I will be co-ordinating the delivery of Greenwich Park Revealed, on time and on budget.

What is your background?

I joined the GPR team in April 2023.

Having started 25 years ago in the landscape sector, I have spent the last 15 years managing and improving urban parks and open spaces in Kent, Medway and for the National Trust. I’ve worked with local Friends Groups, volunteers, stakeholders, and the National Lottery Heritage Fund, to improve public parks in a way that meets the needs of the community. It’s key to operate sustainability and in a way that will conserve and protect the heritage and cultural importance of those green spaces.

I have worked across the South Downs in Sussex to bring together partnerships to include nature conservation, heritage charities and community groups. These partnerships have supported conservation of chalk grassland and health and well-being projects. Most recently I have project managed the design and planning of approximately 150 hectares of natural greenspaces including wetlands, meadows, woodlands, and scrubland across the Hoo Peninsula.

What excites you about your role?

The Future Gardener scheme that is part of the Greenwich Revealed Project is really exciting. Also, I can’t wait to get involved in the project delivery to ensure its success and secure its legacy, particularly in providing new opportunities for visitors and the local community.

Job title

Greenwich Park Revealed Programme Manager

What does your role involve?

I have oversight of the build, landscape and activity programmes of work and am responsible for delivering the project on time and to budget. I support and direct the team to ensure that we stay on track.

What is your background?

I have over 15 years project management experience working on cultural heritage sector projects across the UK and in the Middle East.  I have a design background and an interest in sustainability, culture, and heritage. I have spent lots of time working inside museums and so it’s a real treat to now get outside in the fresh air!

What excites you about your role?

The project will leave a legacy which will be enjoyed by international visitors and locals. Not only are we preserving historic landscapes for future generations, but we’re also providing new facilities and activities which can be enjoyed by all.  I’m looking forward to having a coffee at the new café and, seeing the new Learning Centre which will be both beautiful and sustainable, and then taking in the views of the restored Grand Ascent and Parterre Banks.

Job title

Project Support Officer

What does your role involve?

Providing project administrative and organisational support for the delivery of the Greenwich Park Revealed Project.

What is your background?

I have spent most of my career working in the NHS, most recently in mental health policy - a very different area, although evidence shows that access to high-quality green space improves health outcomes, so there is a connection there! I’ve always had a passion for the outdoors - volunteering on various habitat management and gardening projects.

What excites you about your role?

As a local, I’ve spent a lot of time in Greenwich Park - what could be better than getting to work in one of your favourite places? I get to work with people in different roles, from landscape architects and archaeologists to volunteer coordinators and builders, and I love hearing all their different ideas!

What do you think will be the biggest challenge?

Working in this sector is new to me, so it’s a bit like learning a whole new language- I’m really looking forward to getting stuck in!

Job title

Community Archaeologist for the Greenwich Park Revealed project

What does your role involve?

Being the first in-house archaeologist for The Royal Parks! I will develop and deliver community archaeology activities for the Greenwich Park Revealed project, working with the public, schools, volunteers, specialists and contractors, to uncover some of the park’s archaeological secrets.

What is your background?

I’ve worked as a community archaeologist for Kent County Council for more than ten years. We’ve run a series of fun and engaging projects in Kent at country parks, on commons and across Romney Marsh with local schools and even in collaboration with Leicester University, looking for evidence of Caesar’s landing place!

What excites you about your role?

Although digs have taken place in the park before, this will be the first project to look at the archaeology as a whole. There are an amazing collection of sites present, from Roman buildings to Anglo-Saxon burials, huge 17th landscape features, to buried World War Two archaeology. I love the breadth of archaeology present and the opportunity to explore this historic landscape further.

What do you think will be the biggest challenge?

Making the most of the three years we have to run projects. This is a unique opportunity!

Job title:

Partnership and Community Engagement Officer

What does your role involve?

I’m working with our project partners to create exciting and engaging events, learning sessions and activities for visitors to the park throughout the year. I am also supporting the project team to ensure that events taking place in the park can be made as accessible as possible for all park users, and to invite people to experience the park in new ways – hopefully even visit for the first time!

What is your background?

I have worked in the heritage and museums sector, focusing on communications and heritage advocacy. I’ve a passion for engagement and learning, starting my career as a teacher, and with experience as a learning volunteer – most recently at the Horniman Museum & Gardens (my favourite museum). I’m interested in language, interpretation, and storytelling, and recently worked on an exhibition, which explored the ‘unearthing’ of the hidden history of the St Vincent Botanical Garden in the Caribbean. I have a master’s degree in museum studies and a BA in Classics.

What excites you about your role?

It brings the opportunity to work with, and learn from, a fantastic range of people. I hope that the connections made with volunteers, partners, local groups, and visitors, will continue long after the project. I am excited about the work, to enhance the landscape and bring fantastic new facilities. It will make a real, positive difference to how people can experience the park.

What do you think will be the biggest challenge?

It will be very busy over summer, with lots of exciting events and activities. We’ll deliver the best possible activities for visitors, while keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes!
